One path forward is using a cooperative community investment fund to give the people of Shawnigan Lake the ability to financially support the types of businesses that are beneficial to the community and not detrimental to the environment.  This would provide a purposeful direction for Shawnigan Lake.  Rather than waiting for businesses to show an interest, we could support local people who share our progressive vision for the community.  We also need to hearken back to Shawnigan Lakes’s roots as a resort destination, and capitalize on the re-instating of the rail service from Victoria.
